Kentucky State

Kentucky, originally pronounced Cane-tuc-ee was the 15th state to join the union, and is the 37th state largest in total land size according to the demographic measurements. Kentucky is the 26th largest state in rank of population. In the name change occurred with the current spelling and annunciation. It is common belief that the name has the meaning of "dark and bloody ground". The Bluegrass state is the nickname for Kentucky due to the vast open pasture land that is used for breeding livestock and producing racing thoroughbreds that Kentucky is so well known for. Kentucky is located in the east central location of the United States. It is constituted as a Southern State and one of four states titled commonwealth state. Two of the largest man made lakes belong to the state of Kentucky as well as the largest cave system Mammoth Cave National Park. Kentucky has become well known for a lot of things but just to name a few: thoroughbred horses, horse racing and bourbon distilleries, blue grass music and automobile manufacturing.

Tobacco is another big deal in Kentucky as is Kentucky basketball. Northern Kentucky is bordered by the Ohio River and the south end is bordered by The Mississippi River. In between Indiana and Kentucky is the smallest and only piece of land border and that is called Waterworks Park. Kentucky is divided into five smaller regions they are: Cumberland Plateau, Cumberland Region, Penny Royale, and Western Coal Fields. The bluegrass regions are also divided into two regions the inner and the out regions. The inner consist of about 90 miles that surrounds Lexington. The outer region is anything north of Knob. Most of the outer region is made up of lots of steep and narrow hills. Quite a bit of Kentucky is Appalachia land. College athletics are equaled important to Kentucky. The state boast 3 division 1 football Subdivision programs, Kentucky Wildcats, The Louisville Cardinals and the Hilltoppers. Of all the basketball teams in the United States, Wildcats, Hilltoppers and Cardinals are among the top tradition rich teams to be recognized. They have brought home a combined nine championships and 22 NCAA Final Fours. All 3 teams list out with most wins per season, highest average season wins, and total all time "wins".

Most recently Louisville football stepped up and took home 8 straight bowl games including the Orange Bowl in 2007. Georgetown College is well known for the summer training of the Bengals football. From 2000 to 2008 Louisville was the rehab for many professional wrestlers of the WWE. Many of the cities rely on the fans athletic support to keep there businesses and stores healthy.
